Info for Guests
What is the mission? / Who is this for?
Audience: Pro and emerging pro pop and theatre singers, and serious enthusiast singers, first; voice teachers, clinicians, and researchers second.
Mission: To provide free expert info for singers, and suggestions for the best ways to use that info, so more singers can find solutions to the challenges they may be facing.
Style: A balance of good conversational flow and appropriately nuanced health, science, and technique discussion—in language that strives to be accessible to pop and theatre singers.

Disclosures
Courtenay runs a voice studio for pop and theatre singers.
The Pro Singer Podcast is editorially independent. The conversation is about your expertise, not studio promotion. (Guests are welcome to mention/recommend any coaches, tools, methods, etc. they wish.)
Will this be a good conversation?
That's a major goal! To that end:
This is a structured podcast: Courtenay will prepare thoughtful, interesting questions based on guests' expertise, background, and relevant current interests.
Guests can suggest topics: If there's something you want to ensure we cover (or avoid), there are multiple ways to flag it well in advance of the interview, and questions will be prepared accordingly.
Host background: Courtenay has been following the scholarly voice health and science conversation since 2011, with a deepened focus on vocal health since 2023. There should be ample opportunity for appropriate depth and nuance in the conversation.
Other questions you may have
What is the process from here?
Guests will receive a Calendly invite to book two calls:
- An advance tech check date/time
- The show recording date/time
There is also a brief intake form to clarify tech options, and track any guest requests for show, which can be updated up to the recording date.
What are the tech and recording logistics?
- Initial Tech Setup Check call: about 20 minutes.
- Recording session call: Recording calls have been running under 2 hours, with the actual podcast chat running about 90 minutes. There can be flexibility, here, but this "~90 minutes" seems to align with the goal of 'appropriate nuance.'
- Recording platform used (for virtual interviews): Riverside.fm (runs in Chrome browser on a desktop or laptop)
- Tech Requirements:
- Minimum setup: Webcam mic, wired headphones, laptop or desktop running Chrome with good wifi or wired ethernet.
- Optimal setup: an XLR mic with a standalone audio interface, wired headphones, a quiet room, and a wired ethernet connection if possible.
- Both audio and video are captured. Video is used for the YouTube release and for short-form clips; audio-only listening remains the primary format, but the occasional slide is great, too.
Where will episodes be published?
Mainly Apple Podcasts, and YouTube, plus reels on Instagram, for now, but assume episodes may be distributed fairly widely.
Will I get clips or files to share?
Yes. Guests will receive short-form clips and can request the full episode file for their own channels and promotion.
What's the timeline from recording to publication?
Unclear/TBA, aside from a mid-August show launch goal. Guests will be notified before their episode drops so it can be coordinated with any book launches, research publications, or other timing considerations.
Can guests suggest topics?
Absolutely. Guests can also flag any areas they'd prefer not to be asked about. There will be a form for this, plus usual communication channels
Can we mention my book / practice / research, etc.?
Yes, of course!
Can guests receive the questions in advance?
Guests can request a summary of question areas in advance. In keeping with the goal of natural conversation, the preference is to not share the full, exact question list — but there can be flexibility, here.
What if there's something I want to retract or adjust?
Guests have final quote approval post-recording, so anything you're not sure about can be cut.
Will the conversation ever be paywalled?
No, never. The mission is free, high-quality info to singers, so Pro Singer Podcast episodes will never be paywalled.
